ST. JAMES YOUTH CHOOSE TO SUPPORT HEIFER’S EFFORTS IN THE ‘SIEM REAP’ PROVINCE OF CAMBODIA!

Published by Art Gelwicks under Fund Raising

Out of 80 planned original placement cattle, 50 were distributed to Heifer project members from three self-help groups implementing the Community Empowerment for Poverty Reduction project. In his opening remarks, Mr. Ho Bunyeth, Interim Country Director of Heifer Cambodia, introduced Heifer’s history, vision and mission to the guests. He also stated that the gifts would enable poor farm families to get back on their feet to combat poverty and hunger, helping themselves to help others through passing on the gifts by applying the Heifer Cornerstones and the Valued-Based Holistic Community Development approach.

The District Governor, said he would learn more about the Cornerstones concept and approach and disseminate these principles at the national level. He also encouraged the project participants to take good care of the provisions and utilize their skills and knowledge gained from trainings to transform their lives and strengthen their community for sustainable development.

Begun in 2007, this three-year project empowers 80 farm families, of which 50% are woman-headed households, to develop strong communities and environmentally friendly farming practices for food and income generation in a holistic manner.

OUR YOUTH WILL CONDUCT THREE FUNDRAISING ACTIVITIES FROM MAY 3 THROUGH THE 17TH.

1. “Luv You Mom” -The purchase of flats of flowers to be picked up on Mother’s day as gifts or to be planted in fond memory.

2. “And We Walk” - You can say “Take a walk!” to our kids and they will. Simply pledge an amount per mile up to your specified limit and let them do the walkin . . not just the talkin!

3. “Get Your Goat!” This was among the most popular alternative of years past with several individuals purchasing a goat by themselves or combining the efforts of a family. $120 each! No kidding!
